Bateau Bay Studio
With workforce disruptions resulting in the need to work from home, these clients required an additional space so that they could separate their work and family life.
The site is backdropped by a stand of mature eucalypts which filter and diffuse the afternoon light and the design aimed to sit lightly, blending in with this woody backdrop. Randomly staggered Stringy Bark battens of varying thickness were used to add depth to the cladding and blend in with the buildings surrounds.
Bateau Bay Renovation
This project involved a substantial internal alteration, replacement of external window joinery, full external re-cladding as well as a new covered patio and outdoor entertaining area.
The existing kitchen and living room from upstairs was brought downstairs into the existing garage, converting the space into an open plan area that leads out to the rear yard and entertaining area.
Utilising the existing raw brickwork and bringing in other strong elements such as a polished concrete floor, dark joinery and in-situ built concrete island top, a bold, industrial feel was adopted into the space.
The high thermal mass elements used in this area help to maintain a very consistent internal climate and the introduction of hydronic floor heating makes it ultra efficient to heat.
